Ten dimensions of meaningful work

What do you mean by meaningful work?

To me it seems - if we are working 8+ hours each day it should add meaning to our lives and make us feel fulfilled, satisfied and happy. Here is a list of 10 dimensions of work in my opinion. I gathered these few from my own experience and others from several articles I read. HAPPY WORKING

  1. Work should be something you enjoy and want to do – be natural

  2. Have your values get fulfilled by working – work is aligned with your values

  3. A vision is a picture you have in your mind's eye of what you want to have in your work and your life - Have a vision and a mission to reach through your work. There are two levels to a vision. One is what you see for yourself and your immediate family and the other is a more encompassing one – that helps a larger population to become significant.

  4. You should feel that you are not just working but, making a contribution to the society.

  5. Success in the work depends on your OWN contribution – come with solutions for the problems and not just with problems.

  6. It is the spark that makes the work enjoyable and fun - You have a passion for what you are doing.

  7. Satisfaction comes from the end result which is a reward in itself - You feel adequately rewarded for what you do. Remember, compensation for the work done is not just always monetary but also the end result.

  8. You are proud of what you have accomplished. Whatever work you are doing must be done in a way that you feel pride in what you do.

  9. One should have the knowledge of their life purpose - Through work you are expressing your life purpose. Some people use their positive work and life experiences to find their life purpose.

  10. Remember, you have lot of people who believe in what you are doing – you are not working in a vacuum. Part of your work is being rewarded for what you do along with others enthusiastically as a team
