Set aside time for learning - Make learning a lifelong activity

We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn. – Pete Drucker

How often do you set aside time to learn new skills? Many are keen to learn, but struggle to find the time.

Let us see how can we make time, develop our knowledge, and increase our value, both to our organization and to our future

There are several reasons why we do not make learning a priority. Majority being…..

a.   Volume of work – the most obvious reason

b.   Work and life balance

c.   Impossible to find room in our schedule for learning

Most of the time this slip to the bottom of your “To – Do list”. In turn this can lead you to feel disappointed about not living up to your own expectations, which can affect your self – confidence and make you feel less positive about your career. Many suffer to adapt with the changes in the industry, for not being up-to-date. You might miss opportunities to make a great contribution to the organization and others become more effective than you in the workplace.

The good news is, when you make learning a priority, you increase your value to your organization. You're more valuable as a professional, and you're in a better position when you apply these learning in the work

Continuous learning help you develop your “expert power”. You see people around your more willing to respect your opinion and follow your lead.

Ask yourself :

1.   what do you want to get from your learning?

2.   why are you making time to learn?

3.   how to find time to learn new things?

-       recognize the importance of what you're doing, it will be easy to give self-development up whenever you're pressed for time or lacking energy and motivation.

-       identify your learning objectives, and

-       visualize how these will help you achieve the other professional goals that you've set.

-       set SMART goals and add to your daily action programme.

Write these points to remind yourself to devote your time to do the activity:

Identify Obstacles, chunk the available time to devote, maximize your impact of every moment, learn at Your Best, think of a reward that you can give yourself, congratulate yourself, chose your right learning style, collaborate with people who can help you realize your goals,

Key Points

Lifelong learning is essential if you want to stay "in demand" in a changing world. However, many of us feel that we don't have time to devote to regular learning, despite many benefits it offers.
